Balvant Parekh, a name synonymous with the iconic Fevicol brand, stands as a testament to the power of unwavering dedication and passion. This remarkable self-made entrepreneur, a law graduate, book lover, and freedom fighter, carved his path to success in post-independence India. His journey began in Mahuva, Gujarat, where he was born as Balvantray Kalyanji Parekh. As a young man, he actively participated in the Quit India movement, driven by a strong sense of patriotism. Undeterred by societal expectations, Parekh pursued his passion, enduring hardship and working as a peon while living in a factory basement with his wife. A turning point arrived when he traveled to Germany, where he gained valuable business knowledge. Upon his return, he joined forces with his brother to establish Parekh Dyechem Industries in Mumbai. This venture saw the birth of Fevicol, an innovative adhesive designed specifically for carpenters. Launched in 1959, Fevicol quickly gained popularity for its user-friendly application. The same year, the company rebranded as Pidilite Industries, marking a significant milestone in its journey.
Starting as a single small shop, Pidilite Industries gradually expanded its operations, becoming a dominant force in the Indian market. Today, the company boasts a market capitalization of approximately Rs 145000 crore. Beyond his business acumen, Balvant Parekh was also deeply committed to philanthropy. He established two schools, a college, and a hospital in his hometown of Mahuva, leaving behind a legacy of social responsibility.
