The National Weather Service issued a frost advisory for Higher Elevations of Indiana and Beaver County at 9:02 p.m. on Wednesday, valid from midnight to 10 a.m. on Thursday. According to the weather service, temperatures in the low to middle 30s will cause frost to form, which could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. The advisory urges residents to take steps to protect their plants, as exposed plants may be killed if left uncovered.
Frost advisories are typically issued between May and October when conditions are favorable for frost development, particularly when temperatures drop to 36 degrees or below. In severe cases, frost can end the growing season, known as a ‘killing frost’.
To protect plants from frost damage, the weather service recommends covering them with blankets or sheets before sunset to retain heat or, if possible, moving them indoors for the night.
