The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a frost advisory for Philadelphia County, effective from 2:00 AM to 9:00 AM on Tuesday. Temperatures are forecast to drop as low as 34 degrees Fahrenheit, creating conditions conducive to frost formation.
According to the NWS, frost can cause damage to sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Residents are urged to take precautionary measures to protect their plants, such as covering them or moving them indoors for the night.
Frost advisories are typically issued during the spring and fall months when temperatures, wind conditions, and cloud cover favor frost development. Frost is most likely to occur when temperatures reach 36 degrees Fahrenheit or below. In severe cases, frost can end the growing season, known as a ‘killing frost’.
The NWS recommends covering sensitive plants before sunset to retain heat and protect them from frost damage. If possible, plants can also be moved indoors for the night.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the latest weather updates and follow the NWS’s recommendations to minimize the impact of frost on their plants.
