11 bit Studios has announced a delay for the release of Frostpunk 2, moving the launch date from July 25th to September 20th. The decision comes after evaluating feedback received during the beta earlier this year. While the beta received positive reception, with an average player rating of 8 out of 10, 11 bit Studios wants to further refine and implement features based on the feedback.
In a Steam blog post, Frostpunk 2’s game directors Jakub Stokalski and Łukasz Juszczyk detailed some of the improvements being made. The developers are adding “direct-use abilities” that players can utilize during crises, the ability to reshape districts after construction, and a new resource to enhance strategic city-building and expansion. Furthermore, they are reworking aspects of the game’s heat, faction, workforce management, and protest systems.
11 bit Studios is also addressing improvements to Frostpunk 2’s user interface and overall user experience. This includes making the heads-up display clearer and more intuitive, implementing a dedicated construction menu and new city hubs, and enhancing the readability of the Idea Tree.
The delay also allows for the addition of a new feature, “Zoom Stories,” which wasn’t present in the beta. This feature, seen in a recent video, lets players zoom into specific parts of the city and observe its inhabitants in action.
The PC version of Frostpunk 2 will now launch on September 20th, available on PC Game Pass from day one. Console versions for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 are in development, with a release date yet to be announced.
