Fans of Peter Kay have been left disappointed and frustrated after finding out about the cancellation of his opening gigs at the new Co-op Live venue in Manchester through social media, rather than through official communication from Ticketmaster.
The shows, originally scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, have been rescheduled to next week due to ongoing safety tests at the venue. While some fans understand the safety concerns, they are disappointed with the lack of timely communication and the potential inconvenience caused by the date change.
Peter Kay expressed his disappointment in a statement, saying he was “truly gutted” about the news. However, he is looking forward to performing at the rescheduled dates next week.
Ticketmaster has since confirmed that all fans have been contacted via email about the rescheduled dates. However, many fans reported not receiving an email until several hours after the announcement was made, leaving them in the dark about the situation.
Duncan Mathews, one of the affected fans, had booked tickets for the first show and a hotel room for after the gig. He only found out about the cancellation after seeing it on social media by chance.
Lauren, another fan who had planned to attend the show, also expressed her disappointment and concern about finding childcare for the rescheduled date.
Gary May, a fan who managed to attend the rescheduled date, said he understood the safety concerns but felt there should have been more notice from the venue’s organizers.
A spokesperson for Co-op Live said that the decision to reschedule the gigs was made after their first test event on Saturday revealed the need for additional time to complete testing and ensure a consistent power supply to the venue.
Refunds are available for those unable to attend their designated new date, with parking details also announced.
