West Ham United will be without their German striker Niclas Fullkrug for their upcoming Premier League match against Fulham on Saturday. Fullkrug picked up a calf injury while on international duty with Germany and was forced to withdraw from their recent match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam.
The 31-year-old striker, who joined West Ham in the summer, was ruled out of the Netherlands game as a precautionary measure to avoid a more serious and long-term injury. Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann explained the decision, stating, “It’s nothing serious. Unfortunately, the area is a bit problematic because it’s the transition to the Achilles tendon at the bottom of the calf.” He added that Fullkrug would need to take a few days off and would be unavailable for the Fulham match.
Fullkrug had started Germany’s previous Nations League match, a 5-0 win against Hungary, and even scored the opening goal. However, he is yet to score for his new club in England after three appearances. West Ham will hope to have their striker back fit soon as they look to continue their strong start to the Premier League season.
