Galaxy Macau Celebrates ‘Double Anniversaries’ with Immersive Cultural Experience

Galaxy MacauTM Integrated Resort is throwing a spectacular celebration to commemorate two monumental milestones: the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region. This extraordinary event, running until October 20, is a captivating journey into the heart of traditional Chinese culture, featuring an array of dazzling Chinoiserie-inspired activities.

This year, the “Double Anniversaries” take center stage in Macau, with Galaxy Macau partnering with the renowned Foshan Folk Art Research Institute, a “National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base,” to showcase breathtaking art installations crafted from Foshan Lanterns, a cherished national intangible cultural heritage. These mesmerizing displays illuminate the resort, aligning with the Macau SAR Government’s “Travel +” initiative to promote China’s cultural treasures to both locals and tourists.

At the heart of the celebration lies “The Splendor of China,” an awe-inspiring installation situated in the Diamond Lobby. Inspired by an ancient Chinese masterpiece, this installation features a serene lotus pond meticulously crafted on a scroll, with a central lantern symbolizing prosperity, wealth, and peace. This majestic peony-shaped lantern, with its petals gracefully opening and closing, evokes the elegance of ancient times when “the lanterns shine all night, and the city blooms in beauty.”

Enhancing the guest experience is a WeChat mini-program offering an interactive exploration of the lantern installation, complete with captivating light and shadow effects. Guests can also win prizes, including tickets to the “Love Between Fairy and Devil” VR Immersive Experience Center during the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday. Every weekend in September at 3 PM, models adorned in traditional attire will be available for photos, adding an extra touch of festivity to this remarkable cultural event.

The stunning “Jumping Fish, Blooming Lotus” installation, located at the entrance of the Crystal Lobby, welcomes guests with two giant goldfish, embodying the graceful imagery of “dancing fish” as described by Song dynasty poet Xin Qiji. Meticulously crafted by artisans of intangible cultural heritage, every detail of these lanterns reflects the fluidity of the goldfish’s movements as they emerge from a lotus-filled pond, bathed in the shadow of the full moon. The blooming lotus, symbolizing elegance and prosperity, carries special meaning as it honors the 25th anniversary of Macau SAR, enhancing the cultural richness of the celebration.

Galaxy Macau continues to embrace the rising wave of Chinoiserie with the recent launch of the world’s first “Love Between Fairy and Devil” VR Immersive Experience Center. Building on this excitement, the resort offers guests a unique Hanfu experience, allowing them to dress in elegant traditional Chinese attire as they explore both the resort and Macau’s iconic attractions.

To further celebrate the cultural heritage, Galaxy Macau is hosting a series of Hanfu-themed activities, including an open-top bus tour on September 15 and 16. This tour, departing from the Crystal Lobby, will transport Hanfu enthusiasts through Macau’s most popular landmarks, giving locals and tourists alike a chance to admire the timeless beauty of traditional Chinese garments. The festivities culminate with a grand Hanfu Parade on the evening of September 17, from 8:45 PM to 10:00 PM, starting at East Square and progressing to the Diamond Lobby. Guests are encouraged to join the parade, fully immersing themselves in the cultural charm of Guofeng, while the Macao Youth Chinese Orchestra performs a live set of traditional Chinese music in the Diamond Lobby at 9:30 PM. This event will make the Mid-Autumn Festival an unforgettable experience for all who attend.

Galaxy Macau’s renowned restaurants, including Bei Shan Lou, Tam Chai Yu Chun, and Pak Loh Chiu Chow Restaurant, will offer seasonal delicacies, allowing guests to indulge in the rich flavors of authentic Chinese cuisine. Families can enjoy traditional Mid-Autumn games, such as riddle-solving, with opportunities to win special gifts upon check-in. Adding to the joy, Galaxy Kidz mascot Wavey, dressed in Hanfu, will greet young guests. Shoppers will delight in exclusive offers at Galaxy Promenade, with cash vouchers and exciting new flagship and pop-up stores from top brands.

In October, the celebrations will reach a spectacular finale with breathtaking performances at Galaxy Arena by legendary singer Andy Lau and world-renowned tenor Plácido Domingo, capping off the festival in grand style.
