Galaxy S24 FE Release Delayed: What’s the Hold-Up?
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 FE, a lower-cost version of the S24 flagship models released in early 2024, is reportedly facing a delay. According to rumors, the phone’s release may be pushed back to late fall or possibly early 2025.
This delay would contrast significantly with the release schedule of previous FE models. The Galaxy S23 FE, for example, launched in October 2023, approximately eight months after the Galaxy S23. However, the release schedule of FE phones has been erratic in the past. The Galaxy S22 FE did not ship at all, while the Galaxy S21 FE arrived just one month before the launch of the Galaxy S22.
Despite the delay, rumors suggest the S24 FE will be a solid phone, with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset expected in North America and an Exynos 2400 chipset for other regions. This is similar to the chip configuration used in the main Galaxy S24 models.
The S24 FE is also rumored to feature a 4,500 mAh battery, similar to the S23 FE. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip is more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip in the S23 FE, suggesting improved battery life.
The delay in the S24 FE’s release raises questions about Samsung’s positioning of the FE model, especially since the starting price of the standard Galaxy S flagships has dropped to $799. Releasing the FE too late in the year risks close proximity to the launch of Samsung’s next Galaxy S flagships, while releasing it too early in the fall could overshadow it by Apple’s iPhone launch.
Additionally, Samsung’s midrange phone lineup, led by the Galaxy A55, offers similar specs to the FE at a lower price, further complicating the positioning of the FE model.
