Game of Thrones Prequel ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Might Get a New Name

Fans of the sprawling world of Westeros have another reason to be excited. The upcoming ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel, currently known as ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ might be sporting a new title by the time it hits HBO.

In a recent blog post, author George R.R. Martin shared his experience visiting the set of the series. ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ is based on ‘The Hedge Knight,’ the first novella in Martin’s ‘Tales of Dunk and Egg’ series. While HBO has been using the title ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ Martin hinted at a possible switch.

‘It’s [A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms] an adaptation of The Hedge Knight, the first of my Dunk & Egg stories. There were two more after that, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight,’ Martin wrote on his blog. ‘They have all been collected in a book called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. That’s probably going to be the title of the show as well… unless we go with The Hedge Knight. That’s still under discussion.’

Set about 100 years before the events in ‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall, played by Peter Claffey, a courageous knight, and Egg, portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell, a young squire.

Despite the title uncertainty, HBO has confirmed that the series is slated for a 2025 release. However, a specific date within that year remains unclear. ‘Filming wrapped not long ago, and [showrunner] Ira Parker and his team are now in post, looking toward a debut sometime next year,’ Martin stated. ‘Spring, I am hoping, but that’s just a guess, no date has been set yet.’

The series will consist of six episodes, and even with the title drama, Martin has seen a rough cut of the first episode and was pleased with the result. ‘Loved it,’ he simply said in his blog post.

With its rich history and intriguing characters, ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ promises to be a captivating addition to the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe. Whether it eventually adopts the title ‘The Hedge Knight’ or sticks with ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,’ the series is sure to enthrall fans with its tales of chivalry, adventure, and the complex world of Westeros.
