GATE 2025: Exam Schedule, Eligibility, Pattern, and More

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, the nodal institute for organizing the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025, has released the examination schedule. According to a press release on the official GATE 2025 website (gate2025.iitr.ac.in), the exam will be conducted on February 1st, 2nd, 15th, and 16th, 2025. The exams will be held in two shifts – forenoon and afternoon – on each of these days. The first shift (forenoon shift) will commence at 9:30 am and conclude at 12:30 pm, while the second shift (afternoon shift) will begin at 2:30 pm and end at 5:30 pm.

Candidates should note that the application registration window for GATE 2025 will likely open by the end of August 2024. Applicants are permitted to fill out only one application form. If a candidate wishes to appear for a second paper from the two-paper combination, they can add the respective paper to their original application. Multiple applications will not be accepted; only one will be processed, and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund for the paid fee.

GATE 2025 will be a computer-based test (CBT). The list of cities where GATE will be conducted has also been declared, divided into eight zones.

GATE 2025: Eligibility Criteria

As per the notification, candidates currently enrolled in the 3rd or higher years of any undergraduate degree program or who have completed any government-approved degree program in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts/ Humanities are eligible to appear for GATE 2025.

GATE 2025: Exam Pattern

According to the IIT-Roorkee notification, GATE 2025 will consist of 30 exam papers. The exam papers will be in English, and candidates can choose one or two test papers from permissible combinations. The exam duration will be 3 hours, and GATE scores will be valid for three years from the result’s announcement date.

GATE 2025: Marking Scheme

* Questions carry 1 mark or 2 marks.

Negative Marking:


* For a wrong answer chosen in an MCQ, there will be negative marking.
* For a 1-mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
* For a 2-mark MCQ, 2/3 mark will be deducted for a wrong answer.
* There is no negative marking for wrong answer(s) to MSQ or NAT questions.
* There is no partial marking in MSQ.
