GATE 2025 Registration Opens: Key Dates, Eligibility, and Exam Details

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, the organizing institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2025, has opened the registration window for admission to postgraduate engineering programs. The application portal, gate2025.iitr.ac.in, is now live, allowing aspiring candidates to submit their applications. The deadline for completing the application without a late fee is September 26, 2024. However, candidates can still apply with a late fee until October 7, 2024.

The GATE 2025 exam is scheduled to be conducted on February 1st, 2nd, 15th, and 16th, 2025, in two shifts – forenoon and afternoon – on each of these days. The forenoon shift commences at 9:30 am and ends at 12:30 pm, while the afternoon shift begins at 2:30 pm and concludes at 5:30 pm. It is crucial for candidates to remember that they can only submit one application form. If they wish to appear in the second paper (from a two-paper combination), they can add the respective paper to their original application. In case of multiple applications, only one will be accepted, and the remaining applications will be rejected without any refund of the paid fee.

Eligibility Criteria

According to the official notification, candidates currently pursuing their third year or higher in any undergraduate degree program, or those who have completed a government-approved degree program in Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts/ Humanities, are eligible to appear for GATE 2025.

Application Fee

The application fee for GATE 2025 varies based on the candidate’s category and the date of application:

₹ 900 (August 24 to September 26) and ₹ 1400 (with late fee: September 27 to October 7, 2024)

Exam Pattern

GATE 2025 will consist of 30 exam papers, conducted in English. Candidates have the option to choose one or two test papers from permissible combinations. The exam duration is 3 hours, and the GATE scores are valid for three years from the date of the result announcement.

The exam pattern comprises two sections:

General Aptitude (GA):

This section is common to all papers and carries 15 marks. It assesses the candidate’s reasoning and analytical abilities.

Candidate’s Selected Subjects:

This section consists of questions related to the candidate’s chosen subjects, carrying 72 marks for most papers. However, for specific papers like Architecture (AR), Chemistry (CY), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA), Ecology and Evolution (EY), Geology and Geophysics (GG), Mathematics (MA), Physics (PH), Statistics (ST), Humanities and Social Sciences (XH), and Life Sciences (XL), the subject section carries 85 marks.
