General Motors (GM) announced on Thursday that its BrightDrop electric vans will now be marketed under the Chevrolet brand. This strategic shift will provide customers of the popular electric commercial vans access to Chevrolet’s extensive commercial sales and service network.
Chevrolet dealers will be able to sell BrightDrop vans if they meet specific commercial EV requirements and will also be certified to service BrightDrop products. Despite the brand change, production of the vans will continue at the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario.
The BrightDrop Zevo electric vans are available in two versions: the Zevo 600 and the Zevo 400. These vehicles boast a range of up to 272 miles and start at approximately $63,000 after cash offers.
GM’s decision to move BrightDrop under Chevrolet comes as the company looks to expand the reach of its electric commercial vehicles. In the first half of 2024, GM sold 746 BrightDrop Zevo EVs, representing a significant 150% increase compared to the same period last year.
Meanwhile, Chevrolet currently offers a variety of EV models in the U.S., including the Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Bolt EV, and the Silverado EV. However, the brand’s EV sales have experienced a slight dip in 2024 due to the discontinuation of the Bolt EV production in late 2023. Chevrolet plans to launch the next generation of the Bolt EV later next year.
This move by GM signifies the growing importance of the electric commercial vehicle market. By leveraging Chevrolet’s established network, BrightDrop aims to reach a wider customer base and further solidify its position in the burgeoning EV industry.
