The German Design Council has bestowed upon the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) the esteemed German Brand Award 2024 in Gold for their captivating 3D animation of Caspar David Friedrich’s “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog.” This accolade, awarded in the “Brand Communication – Ambient Media & Outdoor Advertising” category, underscores the GNTB’s innovative approach to promoting Germany as a cultural travel destination.
Displayed on Europe’s largest digital billboard at Piccadilly Circus in London, the mesmerizing animation captivated over 11.6 million viewers in a mere two weeks. This impressive reach further solidified the GNTB’s reputation for exceptional brand communication.
Beyond the Gold award, the GNTB’s diverse campaigns garnered recognition within the “Excellence in Brand Strategy and Creation” discipline, securing four “Winner Awards” and two “Special Mentions” from the discerning jury.
Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the GNTB, expressed her elation, stating: “Receiving seven of these prestigious awards from the expert jury is an impressive acknowledgement of the innovative strength and quality craftsmanship of our teams’ brand work for Destination Germany. Especially in times of extraordinarily dynamic changes in global tourism, eye-catching and carefully crafted campaigns shape the positive mindset of our potential customers and make an effective contribution to the success of Destination Germany in the competition between destinations.”
The GNTB’s global campaign “51 UNESCO World Heritage Sites” has achieved remarkable success, triumphing in both the Digital Campaigns and Influencer Marketing categories. Its profound impact on the tourism industry was further acknowledged with a “Special Mention” as the “Lighthouse Project of the Year.”
Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to sustainability, the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) has launched the “Stay a little bit longer” initiative. This global campaign, designed to extend the duration of travelers’ stays, has garnered acclaim in the “Brand Communication – Social Media” category and is set to be recognized as a winner in 2024.
In addition, GNTB Copenhagen’s market-specific “Workation” campaign, highlighting the potential for extended stays, has been awarded in the “Digital Campaigns” category and received a Special Mention as the “Lighthouse Project of the Year.”
The German Brand Award, presented by the German Design Council, stands as the preeminent marketing accolade in the German-speaking world. This prestigious award celebrates excellence in brand strategy and communication across two main disciplines: Within each discipline, the jury typically awards one “Gold” winner per category for exceptional achievements. Additional “Winner” awards are given for noteworthy contributions, and a “Special Mention” is designated for outstanding aspects of brand management.
