Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC 2024) unveiled the much-anticipated iOS 18, showcasing a plethora of new features that will elevate the user experience on compatible iPhones.
iOS 18 has set a minimum requirement of an A12 Bionic chip for its update, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of iPhone models. Those with older devices, such as the iPhone X and iPhone 8, will not be able to enjoy the latest iOS version.
One of the standout features of iOS 18 is the enhanced personalization options for the home screen. Users can now freely place apps wherever they desire, creating a truly customized layout. iOS 18 introduces a range of app improvements, including RCS support for Messages, enhanced sorting options in Mail, topographical features in Maps, and a new Tap to Cash feature for Wallet. Photos has also received a major redesign, featuring a new Gallery at the top and the ability to view photos by years or months.
Apple remains committed to user privacy in iOS 18. Users can now hide apps from their home screen and place them behind a hidden app folder that requires authentication to unlock.
iOS 18 brings exciting gaming enhancements with the introduction of Game Mode. This feature minimizes background app activity, resulting in smoother gameplay, better responsiveness with AirPods, and improved performance with wireless game controllers.
While developers currently have access to the iOS 18 beta, the official release is expected to roll out to compatible iPhones this fall.
