Wildlife officials faced a daunting task when a massive 10-foot alligator ambled onto a Florida Air Force Base, as captured in a video circulating on social media. The colossal reptile brought operations to a halt on Monday morning, preventing any takeoffs or departures until it could be safely removed.
The formidable creature resisted capture, thrashing about vigorously as officers attempted to secure a rope around its snout. However, after a valiant effort, the animal was finally subdued and safely transported to the Hillsborough River.
“Our newest toothy Airman has been relocated to a more suitable environment off base,” the base announced on social media. “Special thanks to FWC for the assist.”
According to the FWC, the alligator was likely displaced from its original habitat by Elvis, an even larger alligator in the vicinity. MacDill Air Force Base is situated in South Tampa, northeast of St. Petersburg.
