Giants QB Daniel Jones’ Time in New York May Be Running Out

Daniel Jones, the 26-year-old quarterback for the New York Giants, may be nearing the end of his tenure with the team. Reports have surfaced indicating that the Giants could potentially trade up to the third overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft to select Drake Maye, a quarterback from North Carolina. Former NFL MVP Boomer Esiason has advised the Giants to release Jones if they intend to acquire Maye, as it would be unfair to both quarterbacks to keep them both on the roster. During his five seasons with the Giants, Jones has played in 60 games, starting 59 of them, but has never managed to complete a full season. He has a career record of 22-36-1, completing 64.3% of his passes for 12,512 yards, 62 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed for 1,914 yards and 13 touchdowns. Jones’s performance in the 2022 season was particularly disappointing, as he played in the fewest games of his career due to a pair of injuries, one of which was an ACL injury that ended his season in November. Before the injury, he had led the Giants to a 1-5 record, throwing for 909 yards with two touchdowns, six interceptions, and a career-low passer rating of 70.5. These factors have reportedly led the Giants to believe that they are finished with Jones, and trading up for Maye would make that official.
