Gladiator 3 Already in the Works? Ridley Scott Teases a Possible Third Film

Get ready for more gladiatorial action! While the highly anticipated sequel, *Gladiator II*, is still two months away from hitting theaters, director Ridley Scott is already contemplating a third film.

During an interview with France’s Premiere magazine, Scott revealed his interest in exploring a *Gladiator 3*. He cited the iconic ending of *The Godfather* as a potential springboard for the story, suggesting a narrative centered around a character grappling with an unwanted position. “I’m already toying with the idea of *Gladiator 3*. No, seriously! I’ve lit the fuse,” Scott revealed. “The ending of *Gladiator II* is reminiscent of *The Godfather*, with Michael Corleone finding himself with a job he didn’t want, and wondering, ‘Now, Father, what do I do?’ So the next [film] will be about a man who doesn’t want to be where he is.”

However, the realization of *Gladiator 3* hinges on the financial success of its predecessor. *Gladiator II* faces a significant challenge with a budget exceeding $300 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Despite this, *Gladiator II* remains one of the most anticipated films of fall 2024. The historical epic stars Paul Mescal as Lucius Verus, the former heir to the Empire, thrust into a life of slavery and gladiator training after Roman troops invade his town.

The cast also boasts a stellar lineup including Pedro Pascal, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Derek Jacobi, and Denzel Washington. *Gladiator II* is directed by Scott and written by David Scarpa, based on a story he co-wrote with Peter Craig. The film is set to premiere in theaters on November 22, 2024.
