Glen Powell to Star in ‘The Running Man’ Reboot, Paramount Announces Release Dates for Upcoming Films

Get ready for a thrilling ride next Thanksgiving, as Glen Powell is set to sprint into theaters in the reboot of ‘The Running Man’! Paramount Pictures has unveiled its upcoming film slate, with Edgar Wright’s highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s dystopian novel taking center stage. The Running Man is slated for a theatrical release on November 21, 2025, positioning it for a blockbuster Thanksgiving weekend. However, the film will face a fierce battle for box office dominance, as it goes head-to-head with ‘Wicked: Part Two’ and a Warner Bros. event movie.

The Running Man, originally published in 1982, follows the story of Ben Richards, a desperate man who enters a deadly game show known as ‘The Running Man’ in search of financial salvation. The game show, set in a dystopian future, encourages violence and murder, putting Richards’ life on the line. Powell will take on the role of Richards in the remake, bringing a fresh perspective to the character previously portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 adaptation. While the original film received mixed reviews, it has since gained a cult following. Wright’s adaptation is expected to stay more faithful to King’s novel than its predecessor, offering a darker and more intense take on the story.

Paramount also announced new release dates for several other projects in its pipeline. The highly anticipated ‘The Naked Gun’ reboot, originally scheduled for July 18, 2025, has been pushed back to August 1, 2025. Liam Neeson will take over the iconic role of Detective Frank Drebin, previously made famous by the legendary Leslie Nielsen. Akiva Schaffer will direct the reboot, with Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins serving as producers.

An untitled Smurfs animated musical from Chris Miller, originally set for a Valentine’s Day release on February 14, 2025, has been moved to July 18, 2025. The film boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Rihanna, James Corden, Nick Offerman, Natasha Lyonne, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Sandra Oh, Kurt Russell, and John Goodman.

The horror film ‘Vicious’, directed by Bryan Bertino and starring Dakota Fanning, has been moved up from August 8, 2025, to February 28, 2025.

Paramount also made a significant adjustment to its 2024 schedule. ‘September 5′, a gripping drama chronicling ABC Sports’ coverage of the 1972 Munich Olympic hostage crisis, will initially receive a limited release on November 29, 2024, before expanding nationwide on December 13, 2024. The studio is hoping that the film’s powerful story will garner attention during the awards season.

With its diverse slate of films, Paramount is poised to deliver a year filled with cinematic experiences, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating the next chapter in their cinematic journey.
