Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) to Lead Sustainability Discussions at MICE Show Asia and ITB Asia 2024

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) will be taking center stage at two major industry events in Singapore: MICE Show Asia and ITB Asia 2024. Rita Kuan, the organization’s Market Development Manager, will be leading discussions on sustainable practices within the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Kuan’s participation underscores the GSTC’s dedication to guiding companies toward sustainable operations. She will be utilizing the GSTC MICE Criteria as a framework to promote positive environmental, social, and economic changes within the industry.

MICE Show Asia: Driving Sustainability in the MICE Industry

On October 25th, Kuan will be part of a one-hour informal conversation titled “Driving Sustainability: Strategies for a Greener Future in the MICE Industry.” Joining her on the panel are esteemed industry leaders: Chua Mun Yuen (Vice President of Research & Sustainability at Resorts World Sentosa), Ian Gan (Chief Sustainability Officer at Singapore EXPO), and Adam Piperdy (Founder & Chief Experience Officer of Unearthed Production). This session will delve into innovative strategies that can elevate sustainability across the MICE landscape.

ITB Asia: Harnessing GSTC Standards for a Resilient Future

Kuan will also be present at ITB Asia, Asia’s premier travel trade show, on October 24th. She will participate in a panel discussion titled “Driving Sustainability: Harnessing GSTC Standards for a Resilient Tourism Future,” which will be held at the Sands Expo & Convention Centre. Once again, she will be joined by co-speakers Ian Gan and Adam Piperdy.

GSTC Global Conference: Sustainable Events in Practice

Beyond these individual events, Kuan and the GSTC team will be actively involved in the GSTC Global Conference #GSTC2024Singapore. During the “Sustainable Events” panel, they will share their expertise on sustainable practices throughout the event management lifecycle. This includes venue selection, waste handling, catering, and transportation. Attendees will learn effective strategies to minimize the environmental impact of their events and contribute positively to local communities. The conference will feature real-world examples and proven models for sustainable MICE events.

A Sustainable Stage for Sustainability

The GSTC2024 Singapore event will be hosted at the Equarius Hotel, part of Resorts World Sentosa. Notably, this venue is the first in the world to achieve certification under both the GSTC Destination Criteria and GSTC Industry Criteria for Hotels, a distinction earned in 2021. Sentosa and Singapore themselves are recognized as sustainable destinations, providing a fitting backdrop for this important gathering.

The participation of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council in these prominent industry events highlights the growing importance of sustainability in the MICE sector. Kuan’s presentations and the GSTC Global Conference will provide invaluable insights and practical guidance for industry professionals looking to make their events more sustainable and contribute to a greener future.
