A major IT outage is currently affecting businesses and services across the globe due to problems with Microsoft Windows. The issue, reportedly caused by a faulty update from cybersecurity provider Crowdstrike, has resulted in thousands of PCs and servers worldwide going offline and unable to reboot. This disruption has caused significant chaos for broadcasters, airlines, and numerous other businesses.
On Friday morning, Sky News in the UK went off air due to the outage. The channel displayed a message apologizing for the interruption and expressing hope for a swift restoration of service. It appears that limited broadcasting resumed shortly before 9am.
Airline Ryanair posted on X (formerly Twitter) about the disruptions: “We’re currently experiencing disruption across the network due to a Global 3rd party IT outage which is out of our control. We advise all passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before their scheduled departure time.”
Microsoft acknowledged the issue on X, stating: “Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions.” The company added, “We still expect that users will continue to see gradual relief as we continue to mitigate the issue.”
