The 8th edition of the UN Global Conference on Wine Tourism, held in Armenia, served as a pivotal platform for global experts to explore the delicate dance between preserving centuries-old traditions and embracing modern innovation within the world of wine tourism. This milestone event, drawing over 300 participants from 25 countries, solidified Armenia’s position as a leader in the international wine tourism community.

Discussions highlighted its role in safeguarding cultural heritage, creating jobs, and stimulating economic growth. Armenia’s Minister of Economy, Gevorg Papoyan, emphasized the sector’s significance to the country, stating that wine tourism not only supports local businesses and jobs, particularly in rural areas, but also preserves a rich winemaking legacy dating back over 6,000 years.
Amidst the growing popularity of experience-driven travel, the conference delved into the increasing desire for authentic connections with the people and culture behind the wine. Attendees explored ways to harmonize innovation with tradition across various facets of wine tourism, including storytelling, digitalization, wine route creation, e-commerce, and adapting to the evolving preferences of Generation Z. A key focus centered around the need for education and training to equip professionals with the skills necessary for the continued growth and success of wine tourism.
