Now, they are adding contextual action buttons, allowing users to take immediate action on the information presented, such as tracking a package or viewing order details directly from the summary card.
But that’s not all. Summary Cards are also gaining real-time status updates, offering a dynamic view of logistics. Imagine seeing your package’s live location and delivery updates right on the Summary Card! These enhanced Summary Cards are currently rolling out to Gmail users on Android and iOS. If you don’t see them yet, you can enable them by navigating to Gmail > Menu > Settings > General > Smart features and personalization. In the near future, Summary Cards will expand their capabilities to support purchases, events, travel, and bills, with quick action buttons such as “Remind me,” “Invite others,” and “Get directions.” You’ll also find a “Happening soon” section at the top of your inbox, highlighting upcoming events related to Summary Cards.
Meanwhile, Google is also bringing its powerful Gemini AI to the iPhone version of the Gmail app. Previously available only on Android, Gemini in Gmail allows users to interact with their inbox using natural language queries. Simply ask questions like “Catch me up on the emails about quarterly planning” or “show me unread messages from XYZ” and Gemini will do the work for you. It can also find specific information within emails, pull up conversations on a specific topic, and more. This powerful AI can even summarize emails and suggest relevant replies based on the content. For those reading an email, tapping the Gemini icon in the top row will bring up additional AI-powered insights and suggested next steps. The potential of Gemini in Gmail goes beyond individual emails, with plans to expand its capabilities to include information from Google Drive files in the future. Currently, Gemini in Gmail is available in English for paid Workspace accounts and Google One AI Premium subscribers.
