On Thursday, September 26, 2024, the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, hosted a significant event at Vivanta Goa, Miramar, to mark World Tourism Day. The occasion, dubbed the Tourism Stakeholder Outreach Program, brought together key players from Goa’s vibrant tourism industry, with the primary focus on aligning tourism growth with the state’s ambitious goals for sustainable and regenerative tourism.
Led by Tourism Minister Rohan A. Khaunte and Director of Tourism Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, the event fostered collaboration among stakeholders from various sectors, including watersports operators, beach shack owners, wellness tourism providers, and restaurant associations. These diverse voices were united by their shared commitment to shaping a future where Goa’s tourism flourishes while preserving its unique environment and cultural heritage.
The program featured insightful presentations from five prominent stakeholders, each sharing their expertise and vision for advancing Goa’s tourism landscape. A common thread running through these presentations was the critical importance of sustainability. Participants explored how tourism growth could be achieved while respecting Goa’s commitment to responsible practices, ensuring a positive impact on the environment and local communities.
Minister Khaunte emphasized the government’s unwavering focus on regenerative tourism, highlighting initiatives aimed at benefiting society, the environment, and the economy simultaneously. He outlined specific programs supporting women entrepreneurs in the homestay sector, bolstering rural tourism development, and creating attractive wellness tourism packages specifically targeted at international tourists.
Suneel Anchipaka, in his address, underlined the collaborative spirit of Goa’s tourism sector. He stressed that the active participation and commitment of all stakeholders are essential to meet the growing demand for tourism while safeguarding Goa’s unique identity and charm.
The event was expertly moderated by Deepak Narvekar, Deputy General Manager (Marketing) at GTDC, and concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Gavin Dias, General Manager, GTDC. Mr. Dias reaffirmed the Department’s steadfast commitment to supporting and promoting Goa’s tourism development, ensuring a bright future for the industry.
