Godrej feud ends: Land bank stays with Jamshyd faction, real estate projects with Adi faction

The Godrej family feud has ended with a settlement that splits the group between two branches of the founding family. Jamshyd Godrej and his sister Smita will control Godrej Enterprises Group, which includes Godrej & Boyce and its affiliates. They will also control the group’s vast land bank, including 3,400 acres of prime land in Mumbai.

Adi Godrej and his brother Nadir will control Godrej Industries Group, which includes the listed companies Godrej Industries, Godrej Consumer Products, Godrej Properties, Godrej Agrovet and Astec LifeSciences.

Godrej Properties will continue to market real estate projects developed by Godrej & Boyce for management fees.

The settlement ends a long-running feud between the two branches of the family. Jamshyd and Smita had accused Adi and Nadir of mismanagement and nepotism. Adi and Nadir had denied the allegations.

The settlement is a major victory for Jamshyd and Smita. They will now have control of the group’s most valuable assets, including the land bank and the flagship company Godrej & Boyce.

It is not yet clear how the settlement will affect the day-to-day operations of the Godrej group. However, it is likely that Jamshyd and Smita will take a more active role in the management of the group.

The settlement is a significant event in the history of the Godrej group. It is the end of a long-running feud and it will have a major impact on the future of the group.
