Gogo Business Aviation (NASDAQ: GOGO), in partnership with Duncan Aviation, has achieved a significant milestone by installing its revolutionary Galileo HDX system on a Bombardier Challenger 300. This installation represents a critical step forward as Gogo prepares to launch its Low-Earth-Orbit (LEO) global broadband solution later this year. The installation process, which will be applied to an estimated 4,000 aircraft equipped with the AVANCE platform, involved the addition of a fuselage-mounted antenna. This antenna seamlessly integrates with the pre-installed AVANCE L5 line replaceable unit (LRU), making the installation efficient and straightforward.
Mark Winter, Houston Satellite Manager for Duncan Aviation, highlighted the smooth installation process, stating, “Our team quickly completed the installation and initiated ground system testing with eight devices connected simultaneously. The performance was outstanding, and we are confident that Gogo Galileo users will experience significantly improved connectivity.”
Gogo is now entering the next phase, focusing on rigorous testing to optimize the system’s performance. This phase includes comprehensive electromagnetic interference (EMI) ground testing, alongside vibe, buffeting, and in-flight evaluations. Sergio Aguirre, Gogo’s president and COO, expressed confidence in the timeline, stating, “We are on track for the Galileo HDX launch in the fourth quarter, fulfilling our objectives in terms of both timing and budget.”
Gogo Galileo customers stand to benefit from the reliability of the Eutelsat OneWeb enterprise-grade LEO satellite network. This network provides dedicated bandwidth, a crucial advantage over consumer-shared networks. As of the second quarter of 2024, Gogo has secured eight Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) programs for 5,318 aircraft, with an additional 21 STC agreements covering 12,267 aircraft currently in progress.
The Gogo Galileo HDX antenna, specifically designed for business aircraft, boasts impressive mean speeds of 57 Mbps and peak speeds reaching up to 60 Mbps. Early 2025 will see the introduction of the Galileo FDX antenna, catering to larger aircraft, with even faster mean speeds of 189 Mbps and peak speeds reaching a remarkable 195 Mbps.
Gogo is actively accepting purchase orders for its Galileo system, offering special rebates to existing Gogo customers with legacy systems. Detailed equipment pricing and service plans are readily available on the Gogo website.
