Gogoro Delivers on Strong Demand for Affordable JEGO Electric Scooter, Expansion into High Performance Electric Scooters

Gogoro Delivers on Strong Demand for Affordable JEGO Electric Scooter

Gogoro, the world’s largest battery-swapping network operator, has announced the start of deliveries for its highly anticipated Gogoro JEGO Smartscooter. The JEGO has garnered over 6,500 fully-paid pre-orders since its launch in Taiwan last month, demonstrating strong demand for the scooter’s affordability and innovative features.

Affordability and Battery-Swapping Drive Demand

The Gogoro JEGO is positioned as an affordable electric scooter, with an introductory price as low as US $760 after government subsidies. This price point is designed to attract price-sensitive combustion engine scooter riders and further expand the local market. The scooter is built around Gogoro’s well-known battery standard, allowing one or two battery packs to power the vehicle.

Riders can purchase the scooter but do not own the batteries. Instead, they subscribe to a swapping plan, which helps reduce the scooter’s price and ensures that Gogoro can maximize the lifespan of the batteries through intelligent charging and swapping practices. Gogoro’s experience with its battery-swapping programs, which started in 2015, has shown that its batteries are lasting even longer than initially anticipated, with an estimated lifespan of around 12 years.

New Battery-Swapping Subscription Plan

Gogoro has also announced a new affordable battery-swapping subscription plan alongside the JEGO. New riders can sign up for a US $7/month plan that covers up to 1,000 km (621 miles) of riding per month when signing up for a three-year plan.

Positive Response from New EV Riders

The JEGO’s goal of converting existing combustion engine scooter riders to electric seems to be succeeding. Gogoro has noted that nearly all of the 6,500 pre-order customers are first-time EV riders seeking a smart, convenient, and sustainable vehicle.

Dual-Pronged Approach

While Gogoro expands its entry-level offering with the JEGO, it is also preparing for the rollout of its high-performance electric scooter model. This model will use the same Gogoro swappable battery packs and will include a number of automotive-style features not previously seen in the electric scooter market. This dual-pronged approach reflects Gogoro’s ability to innovate on both ends of the market, catering to both entry-level riders and higher-performance enthusiasts.
