Gogoro Expands into Chile with Copec Partnership to Launch Battery Swapping Network

Gogoro Inc., a global leader in battery-swapping ecosystems for sustainable urban mobility, has announced a strategic partnership with Copec, a leading energy company in Latin America. This collaboration marks the launch of Gogoro’s first two-wheel battery swapping platform and Smartscooters in Chile, expanding its footprint in the region after its successful partnership with Terpel in Colombia.

The partnership signifies a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation alternatives in Chile. Copec, known for its commitment to energy transition and carbon neutrality, sees the Gogoro battery swapping solution as a key component in its vision to transition to electric and hybrid vehicles within the next decade.

“We are excited to see the Gogoro ecosystem expanding in Latin America, first with Terpel in Bogota and now with Copec Voltex in Santiago. Gogoro battery swapping offers a novel approach to electric two-wheel refueling, eliminating the need for dedicated parking or lengthy charging times,” said Henry Chiang, Interim CEO of Gogoro. “We are proud to partner with Copec and applaud their mission to offer sustainable transportation options in Latin America.”

The Gogoro Network is being rolled out in strategic locations across Santiago, ensuring convenient access for riders. Currently, ten battery swapping stations are operational at Copec service stations, with plans to expand to 18 stations by the end of the year. These stations are strategically located in key boroughs, including La Reina, Ñuñoa, Santiago, La Florida, Huechuraba, Vitacura, Lo Barnechea, and Estación Central.

Andrea Castro, CEO of Copec Voltex, emphasized the company’s commitment to developing sustainable solutions that meet the evolving needs of Chileans. “Implementing this ecosystem aligns with our goal to lead the energy transition toward carbon neutrality, which includes transitioning to electric and hybrid vehicles over the next decade. Achieving this requires urban charging infrastructure across all segments we’re working to convert to electric vehicles,” she stated. “Our partnership with Gogoro allows us to offer an innovative charging solution that redefines city travel, lowering barriers to entry and bringing electric mobility to a new group of Chileans seeking more efficient and sustainable transportation for daily life.”

Gogoro’s Battery Swapping Ecosystem

Gogoro’s battery swapping platform is recognized as the leading two-wheel battery swapping platform globally. It offers a smart, safe, and dynamic solution for riders, businesses, and communities. The platform is built on an open and interoperable design, enabling seamless integration and compatibility.

In Taiwan, Gogoro’s network boasts nearly 650,000 riders, over 1.3 million smart batteries in circulation, and over 12,500 battery swapping stations across 2,500 locations. With more than 400,000 daily battery swaps and over 650 million swaps to date, Gogoro’s platform has significantly reduced carbon emissions, saving over one billion kilograms of CO2 since its launch in 2015.
