Goodyear Reports Progress on Sustainability Goals in 2023 Corporate Responsibility Report

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has unveiled its 2023 Corporate Responsibility Report, showcasing its dedication to creating value for both internal and external stakeholders. The report emphasizes Goodyear’s strides towards meeting its sustainability targets, both short-term and long-term.

Goodyear’s CEO and President, Richard Kramer, stated, “Our commitment to sustainability and delivering value to our customers and other stakeholders is unwavering. Our 2023 corporate responsibility report demonstrates how our associates around the world continue to help build a better future, from exploring new innovations and materials, to identifying and implementing new strategies to help us meet our corporate responsibility ambitions, to giving back to our communities in which we live and work.”

The 2023 report marks a significant milestone, as it incorporates the company’s high-priority topics: Climate Decarbonization, Adaptation, and Resiliency; Circularity; Human and Labor Rights; and Supply Chain Governance and Transparency. These topics were identified after a comprehensive double materiality assessment conducted in late 2022, aligning with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards.

One notable highlight of the report is Goodyear’s continued efforts to minimize its environmental impact. In 2023, the company successfully reduced its Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by a significant 21.9 percent, compared to its 2019 baseline. Furthermore, Goodyear expanded its utilization of renewable electricity, reaching 37 percent across its global manufacturing operations.

Goodyear continues to make remarkable progress towards its 2030 goal of introducing a 100 percent sustainable-material tire. This is evidenced by the recent launch of the Goodyear EcoReady, a consumer tire made with 70 percent sustainable materials. The EcoReady incorporates innovative materials like soybean oil to decrease reliance on petroleum-based oil, high-quality rice husk ash silica to minimize landfill waste, and sustainably sourced natural rubber.

Goodyear is dedicated to helping its associates reach their full potential by providing comprehensive talent management and learning development solutions that foster a diverse and inclusive culture. A testament to this commitment is the company’s eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), which saw an impressive nearly 15 percent increase in associate membership in 2023. Additionally, associate participation in Goodyear’s Global Week of Volunteering experienced a remarkable 20 percent year-over-year rise.

Goodyear’s commitment to responsible sourcing is evident through its efforts to reduce environmental and social impacts. In 2023, through its partnership with the Sustainable Rubber Platform, the company provided funding for a Capability Building Project that trained nearly 5,000 farmers in Southeast Asia. This project aims to enhance their agricultural practices and promote sustainable rubber cultivation.

Goodyear’s 2023 Corporate Responsibility Report was prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards, ensuring transparency and accountability. The report includes independently verified data for Goodyear’s 2023 Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions. The report is accessible on Goodyear’s corporate website.

As a global leader in the tire industry, Goodyear employs approximately 71,000 people and operates 55 manufacturing facilities across 22 countries worldwide. Its two Innovation Centers in Akron, Ohio, USA, and Colmar-Berg, Luxembourg, are dedicated to developing cutting-edge products and services that set the benchmark for technology and performance in the industry.
