Google’s Doodle today celebrates the skateboarding events at the 2024 Paris Summer Games, which officially kicked off yesterday, July 26th. The animated doodle features a group of chickens skateboarding atop a house roof, adding a playful touch to the celebration of this exciting sport. Today’s doodle specifically marks the men’s skateboarding events, with the street prelims scheduled for the afternoon and the final round set for the evening.
Skateboarding is one of four new sports introduced to the Olympic Games alongside breaking, surfing, and sports climbing. These new additions join the 28 traditional Olympic sports. The 2024 Paris Summer Games will see athletes from over 200 countries competing in 329 events across 32 sports disciplines. The Games are scheduled to run until August 11th, marking the 33rd edition of this quadrennial sporting spectacle.
India is well represented at the 2024 Paris Summer Games with a strong contingent of athletes across various disciplines. In shooting, Prithviraj Tondaiman, Sandeep Singh, Swapnil Kusale, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Elavenil Valarivan, Sift Kaur Samra, Rajeshwari Kumari, Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Babuta, Ramita Jindal, Manu Bhaker, Anish Bhanwala, Anjum Moudgil, Arjun Cheema, Esha Singh, Rhythm Sangwan, Vijayveer Sidhu, Raiza Dhillon, Anantjeet Singh Naruka, Shreyasi Singh, and Maheshwari Chauhan are set to compete.
The Indian athletics team includes Akshdeep Singh, Priyanka Goswami, Vikas Singh, Paramjeet Bisht, Avinash Sable, Neeraj Chopra, Parul Chaudhary, Ram Baboo, Priyanka Goswami/Suraj Panwar, Muhammed Anas/ Muhammed Ajmal/ Amoj Jacob/Santhosh Tamilarasan/Rajesh Ramesh, Jyothika Sri Dandi/ Subha Venkatesan/ Vithya Ramraj/Poovamma MR, Kiran Pahal, Jyothi Yarraji, Sarvesh Kushare, Annu Rani, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, Abdulla Aboobacker, Praveel Chithravel, and Jeswin Aldrin.
India’s wrestling team is represented by Antim Panghal, Nikhat Zareen, Preeti Pawar, Lovlina Borgohain, Kishore Jena, Vinesh Phogat, Anshu Malik, Reetika Hooda, Nisha Dahiya, and Aman Sehrawat. Nishant Dev and Amit Panghal will compete in boxing. The archery team consists of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Bhajan Kaur, Tarundeep Rai, Pravin Jadhav, Deepika Kumari, and Ankita Bhakat.
Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan will represent India in sailing, while Anush Agarwalla competes in equestrian. The table tennis team comprises Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai, Manav Thakkar, Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula, and Archana Kamath. Rohan Bopanna and N Sriram Balaji will compete in tennis.
Balraj Panwar will represent India in rowing. The badminton team includes PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, Ashwini Ponnappa/Tanisha Crasto. Shubhankar Sharma, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Aditi Ashok, and Diksha Dagar are India’s representatives in golf. Mirabai Chanu will compete in weightlifting, while Tulika Maan is India’s judo representative. Finally, Srihari Nataraj and Dhinidhi Desinghu will compete in swimming.
