According to an APK teardown by Android Authority, Google is introducing new search filters designed to streamline the search process. These filters are categorized as ‘Most Recent’ and ‘Best Match’.
The ‘Most Recent’ filter, as the name suggests, arranges photos chronologically, with the most recent additions appearing at the top. This provides a straightforward way to access your latest captures. The ‘Best Match’ filter, on the other hand, takes a more nuanced approach by prioritizing photos that most closely align with the search keyword. This filter aims to deliver more accurate and relevant results, offering a more targeted search experience.
While Google Photos currently has some search functionality, its effectiveness can be inconsistent. Android Authority illustrates this point by highlighting that searching for ‘flower’ often results in irrelevant photos, often lacking any floral elements. The new ‘Best Match’ filter aims to address this issue by ensuring that only photos containing flowers are displayed, significantly enhancing the search experience.
Beyond these filters, Google is also exploring the integration of scrollable albums within search results. This feature would provide a more visually appealing and intuitive way to browse through albums related to the search query.
Currently, these features are not yet live. However, their inclusion in an APK teardown suggests they are likely to be rolled out in an upcoming update. While a confirmed timeline remains elusive, it’s likely that these enhancements will soon be available to users.
