Google Photos is making searching through your photo library easier than ever with two exciting new features. The first is Ask Photos, a powerful new tool powered by Google’s latest AI model, Gemini. Ask Photos goes beyond traditional search by understanding your photo gallery in a more nuanced way. It can identify the most important people in your life, your hobbies, favorite foods, and other key details.
This allows you to ask questions like “Where did we camp last time we went to Yosemite?” or “What did we eat at the hotel in Stanley?” and receive relevant photo results. Ask Photos is designed to be conversational, so you can provide additional clues or context if your initial query doesn’t yield the desired results.
Beyond finding specific memories, Ask Photos can also help you with tasks like suggesting photos for a birthday album or summarizing the highlights of a recent trip.
While Ask Photos is currently in Google Labs, meaning it’s only available to select users, you can join the waitlist for early access. Google is taking a responsible approach to Ask Photos, ensuring user data and privacy are protected by adhering to its AI Principles.
Alongside Ask Photos, Google Photos is also rolling out improved classic search for all users on Android and iOS. This enhanced search allows you to use everyday language, such as “Alice and me laughing” or “Kayaking on a lake surrounded by mountains.” This natural language search provides more accurate and relevant results, which you can further refine by sorting by date or relevance.
Google plans to expand this improved search to more languages in the coming weeks. These updates demonstrate Google’s commitment to enhancing the user experience with Google Photos, making it easier to find and share your precious memories.
