The upcoming Google Pixel 9 series, slated for a launch on August 13th, has been the subject of much speculation. However, recent leaks by Steve Hemmerstoffer (@Onleaks) via 91 mobiles have revealed detailed information about the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, potentially eliminating the need to wait until the official launch.
The leaks confirm significant design changes, including a distinct oval-shaped camera island that sets the Pixel 9 series apart from its predecessors. The Pixel 9 will come in an array of colors, including Obsidian (dark gray), Hazel (light gray), Porcelain White (off-white), and Rose (pink). The phone’s sides are expected to be polished or glossy metal, while the back panel is soft matte. The Pixel 9 Pro will feature three rear cameras, whereas the Pixel 9 might have two. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s camera island will have a rectangular design with rounded corners. The selfie camera cutout on all models has been minimized, resulting in a more uniform appearance.
Spec-wise, the leaks indicate significant upgrades. The Pixel 9 will boast a 6.3-inch Actua display, a 50-megapixel wide camera, a 48MP ultrawide rear camera, and a 10.5MP selfie camera. Under the hood, it will be powered by the Tensor G4 chipset with 12GB of RAM. Both the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will sport a 6.8-inch Actua display, a 50MP primary camera, a 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 48MP rear telephoto sensor. The selfie camera on these models is a 42MP sensor. Like the other Pixel models, both the Pro and XL will feature a Tensor G4 processor and come equipped with 16GB of RAM.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold presents a unique proposition with a 6.3-inch Actua front cover screen and an 8-inch Super Actua Flex inner display. This configuration means that the phone’s size when folded is comparable to the Pixel 9. In terms of camera capabilities, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide camera, and a 10.8MP telephoto sensor. This makes it a more capable shooter than the base Pixel 9 on paper. The front camera is a 10MP sensor. Hardware-wise, it is powered by the Tensor G4 chipset and comes with 16GB of RAM.
In line with current trends, the Pixel phones are expected to be loaded with AI features, including Gemini AI and Circle to Search. Google promises seven years of security updates and exclusive features through Pixel Drops for all Pixel devices. The new phones will also include Emergency SOS, providing alerts about nearby fires and floods, and a filter against malware and phishing scams. Additionally, Pixel Screenshots, a feature similar to Microsoft Recall, will help users save and remember events, places, and other information from their screenshots without access to full device information.
While pricing remains unknown at this stage, the leaks suggest that we might get a glimpse before the anticipated August 13th launch.
