Google Pixel 9 to Feature Same Samsung OLED Display as iPhone 16 Pro Series

The second half of the year is upon us, bringing with it the anticipation of new flagship phones from both Apple and Google. Recent news suggests that a highly anticipated feature slated for the iPhone 16 Pro series could also make its way to the Google Pixel 9. According to ETNews, Google is set to utilize the same Samsung OLED display in the Pixel 9 that Apple intends to employ in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. This “M14” OLED panel boasts enhanced brightness and an improved lifespan compared to its predecessors.

The report indicates that the entire Pixel 9 phone lineup is slated to receive this upgraded display. This includes the standard Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro, as well as the newly introduced Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold (previously rumored as the Pixel Fold 2). The upcoming Pixel 9 is predicted to feature a 6.03-inch display, while the Pixel 9 Pro is expected to offer a slightly larger screen, potentially exceeding 6.1 inches. There are also whispers of a Pixel 9 Pro XL with a 6.5-inch display, marking the first “XL” model since the release of the Google Pixel 4 XL in 2019.

Rumors circulating suggest that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold cover display will see an increase from 5.8 inches to 6.4 inches, while the inner display could expand to 7.9 inches from 7.6 inches. The next Pixel foldable might also ditch the iconic Pixel camera bar, instead featuring two rows of pill-shaped black outlines for three camera lenses and sensors.

Traditionally, Google announces its new phones in October. However, this year, the company has revealed plans to host a Made by Google event on Tuesday, August 13th. This implies that the new Pixel phones will launch before Apple’s, which are scheduled for a September unveiling. Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones. This time around, the display sizes are set to change. The iPhone 16 Pro display might increase to 6.3 inches, up from the current 6.1 inches. The larger iPhone 16 Pro Max will measure 6.9 inches rather than 6.7 inches. The displays of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will remain at 6.1 and 6.7 inches, respectively, mirroring the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus.
