The Google Pixel Watch 3 is slowly revealing its specifications through leaks, offering glimpses into the screen, charging, and software updates we can anticipate. Following the success of the Pixel Watch 2, the third iteration promises to be an even more compelling option.
According to sources providing promotional documentation to Android Headlines, the Pixel Watch 3 will feature Google’s Actua Display technology. Similar to the Actua screens on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, this technology will deliver a noticeable brightness boost. The watch’s screen is reportedly capable of reaching 2,000 nits peak brightness, a substantial improvement over the Pixel Watch 2’s 1,000 nits. If this feature materializes, it would match the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 but fall short of the 3,000 nits peak brightness on the Galaxy Watch Ultra.
The leaks also indicate Google has made improvements to the charging speed of the 41mm Pixel Watch 3, achieving a 20% reduction in charging time compared to the Pixel Watch 2. The mention of a 41mm size strengthens the possibility of Google introducing a larger 45mm case size this year, addressing a common complaint about the single, diminutive size of the previous model. Both models will cater to different wrist sizes by offering a small and large Active Band strap option in the box.
Several new features are expected to arrive in the fitness tracking department. The Readiness Score, incorporated into a new Morning Brief summary, will include a Cardio Load metric, a feature previously seen on Fitbit wearables. Additionally, runners can anticipate a custom interval training option with audio and haptic alerts guiding them through sprint, maintenance, and cool-down phases.
Beyond fitness, the Pixel Watch 3 seems poised to integrate support for Nest security products. Images from cameras and doorbells will be displayed directly on the watch screen. However, considering rumors of a higher price point for the Pixel Watch 3, Google will need to deliver a substantial array of new features to justify the cost, especially since Samsung maintained the price of the Galaxy Watch 7 compared to the Watch 6.
We can expect to uncover more details about the Pixel Watch 3 alongside the Pixel 9 series at Google’s event scheduled for August 13th.
