Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch 3 is generating buzz as its August 13 reveal draws closer. Recent FCC filings have shed light on two key specifications for the smartwatch: Ultra-Wideband (UWB) and 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity.
Four Pixel Watch 3 models, with model numbers GBDU9, GG3HH, GRY0E, and GGE4J, were certified by the FCC. Two of these models feature LTE connectivity, while the other two rely solely on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Notably, all four models include UWB and 5GHz Wi-Fi, confirming long-standing rumors about these features.
The inclusion of UWB is expected to enhance the Pixel Watch 3’s functionality, potentially simplifying phone unlocking when paired with a Pixel smartphone. It might also enable a high-accuracy tracking feature, similar to Apple’s Precision Finding on its latest smartwatches.
The addition of 5GHz Wi-Fi promises faster data speeds compared to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi found on the original Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2. This upgrade should provide a smoother and more responsive user experience.
Beyond these exciting specs, Google is also reportedly offering the Pixel Watch 3 in two sizes: a standard model and a larger XL variant. While the overall design is expected to resemble previous models, the introduction of two sizes caters to a wider range of preferences.
