Google is adding another service to its list of abandoned offerings. As of late July, the company is discontinuing its One VPN service, previously accessible only with a Google One subscription. According to a Google blog post, the decision stems from insufficient user interest, prompting Google to prioritize more popular features. Google advises users to remove the One VPN app from their devices, as it will no longer be available. Notably, this change doesn’t affect Pixel phone users, who have a built-in VPN that functions independently. However, Google discourages the use of free VPNs, citing their potential risks and suggesting opting for affordable premium VPNs instead. This move follows Google’s recent trend of making certain premium Google One features available to all users. Earlier, they introduced AI-powered editing tools like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light for free access. Now, Google is extending another premium feature – dark web reports – to all account holders. Users can access their free dark web reports via the About You page, though availability may vary by region. The reports will check for information like Google passwords and addresses, with the option to provide specific details for more comprehensive analysis. Google One subscribers will receive a notification on their Google One Home page regarding this change.
