Google Unveils Sleek, AI-Powered Nest Thermostat (4th Gen)

Google, a pioneer in the smart home arena, has introduced the fourth generation of its iconic Nest Learning Thermostat. This latest iteration features a sleek, modern design that’s reminiscent of a piece of art. The 2.7-inch LCD screen is 60% larger than previous models and showcases a borderless design reminiscent of the Pixel Watch. Google has also implemented Dynamic Farsight, allowing users to customize the display to show time, temperature, weather, and air quality. The thermostat is available in three stylish finishes: Polished Silver, Polished Obsidian, and Polished Gold.

The Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) is packed with intelligent features powered by AI. It analyzes your preferences and creates personalized energy-saving schedules. The thermostat’s Smart Schedule continuously learns your behavior and adjusts temperatures based on motion detection, ensuring optimal comfort. It also analyzes weather conditions and automatically adjusts heating or cooling to ensure an optimal indoor environment. For instance, on a sunny winter day, the thermostat will pause heating, while on a humid day, it will adjust to account for the higher real-feel temperature.

Google has included a redesigned Nest Temperature Sensor (2nd gen), which is a small, white, pebble-like disc. These sensors can be placed on shelves or hung in rooms, allowing for precise temperature control across different areas of your home. You can add up to six sensors to a single thermostat, enabling you to manage hot and cold spots effectively. The Nest Learning Thermostat also supports Nest Renew, a program that helps you save money and reduce your environmental impact by making adjustments to your energy usage.

The new thermostat goes beyond just temperature control. The System Health Monitor keeps track of your HVAC system’s performance, sending alerts if any issues arise. The Smart Ventilation feature automatically brings in fresh air when air quality is healthy, but will shut down ventilation if pollution or wildfire smoke is detected. The Nest Learning Thermostat can also monitor humidity levels, helping to prevent mold and condensation buildup.

The Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) and Nest Temperature Sensor are available for pre-order on the Google Store for $280. Additional sensors can be purchased separately for $40 each or $100 for a 3-pack. They will be available for purchase in the U.S. and Canada starting August 20th.
