Govee Space Heater Recall: Over 500,000 Units Recalled Due to Fire Risk
As the weather turns colder, many families rely on space heaters to keep their homes warm. However, if you own a Govee space heater, it’s crucial to take immediate action. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Govee have announced a voluntary recall for over 500,000 Govee and GoveeLife smart electric space heaters due to a significant fire hazard.
The recall affects specific models, including H7130, H7130101, H7131, H7132, H7133, H7134, and H7135. You can find these model numbers printed on a label located on the bottom of the space heater. Additionally, all affected space heaters will have the words “GoveeLife” or “Govee” printed on their side.
The CPSC has determined that these space heaters do not comply with safety standard UL 1278, indicating a potential for overheating and fire risk associated with the wireless controls. This issue has led to reports of 113 overheating incidents, including seven reports of fires and one report of a minor burn injury.
What to Do if You Have a Recalled Space Heater:
If you own one of the recalled Govee space heaters, it’s imperative to immediately stop using it. The CPSC urges consumers to contact Govee for a full refund by visiting their official recall website. If you purchased the device through Amazon, you likely received an email from Amazon’s customer service department regarding the recall. Please review this email carefully for instructions on how to return or dispose of the space heater.
Where and When Were the Recalled Units Sold?
The majority of the recalled Govee space heaters were sold on Amazon, the Govee Home App, and the TikTok Shop between September 2021 and September 2024.
Space Heater Safety Tips:
While this recall is a critical reminder of potential safety risks, it’s essential to practice general space heater safety year-round. Here are some key tips to keep in mind:
