The Government of India has recognized the significant export potential of 20 agricultural products and is actively formulating action plans to enhance their global presence. These products, which include bananas, mangoes, potatoes, and baby corn, are deemed to possess high production capabilities, adhere to stringent quality standards, and exhibit competitiveness in international markets.
Led by Rajesh Agarwal, Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, the government’s efforts are directed towards developing detailed action plans for each of these products within the next 3-4 months. These plans will be meticulously discussed with all relevant stakeholders, including state representatives, to ensure coordinated implementation.
India’s current share in the global export market stands at 2.5%, and the government’s ambitious goal is to elevate it to 4-5% in the years to come. The action plans will provide a roadmap for achieving this objective by leveraging the strong production capacities and competitive advantages of these agricultural products.
