Graduate Princeton, Hilton’s newest university-anchored hotel, has officially opened its doors on Nassau Street, directly across from the prestigious Princeton University campus. This marks the first new hotel to grace Princeton’s downtown area in nearly a century, adding a unique blend of modern design and historical reverence to the town.
The hotel, housed in a former Colonial Revival-style dormitory dating back to 1918, underwent a meticulous renovation and expansion by AJ Capital Partners and Stonehill Taylor. The transformation seamlessly blends modern amenities with the building’s historic character, creating a welcoming and stylish atmosphere.
Graduate Princeton embraces the spirit of college life, showcasing a vibrant, locally-inspired aesthetic throughout its 6,000 square feet of communal spaces. The interior design meticulously incorporates elements from Princeton’s 275-year history and the university’s rich lore, offering guests a captivating glimpse into the town’s traditions and architectural heritage.
Upon entering the hotel’s Gothic-style lobby, visitors are greeted by a hand-carved wooden reception desk, overlooked by the university’s mascot statues. The lobby, reminiscent of a grand two-story library, features a 30-foot study table, similar to those found in the university’s historic libraries, surrounded by bookshelves filled with vintage reunion jackets. This inviting space, adorned with gold-leaf inscriptions of famed eating clubs, serves as a hub for relaxation and social interaction.
Ye Tavern, the hotel’s signature restaurant, echoes the style of a 1930s bar that previously occupied the site. The cozy and nostalgic ambiance is created by a lancet window-inspired carved wooden bar and stone-topped banquettes. Here, guests can enjoy classic American dishes, regional specialties, and old-fashioned cocktails reminiscent of the pre-prohibition era.
The guest rooms at Graduate Princeton continue the theme with a color scheme reflecting the university’s iconic palette, featuring orange-and-white seersucker curtains and apricot carpets. The rooms are furnished with custom wood-carved bed frames adorned with illustrations commemorating the university’s historic Cane Spree, and desks topped with artwork celebrating Princeton’s traditions. Bathrooms are styled with bespoke wallpaper that nods to the campus’ famed arboretum, complemented by sketches of Albert Einstein, a tribute to his significant contributions during his tenure at Princeton’s Institute for Advanced Study.
Graduate Princeton offers a unique experience for visitors, blending the vibrant energy of college life with the rich history and tradition of Princeton. It’s a destination that captures the essence of this iconic university town, offering a comfortable and stylish retreat for travelers.
