The Korean BL drama ‘Gray Shelter’ has an open ending, leaving viewers to decide whether the separation of Cha Soo-Hyuk (Jang Woo-Young) and Lee Yoon-Dae (Lee Jae-Bin) is best for them or whether they should have become a couple.
In the finale episode, Soo-Hyuk confronts Yoon-Dae for lying about his father’s death. They engage in an intense argument, blaming each other for being in their lives. Yoon-Dae asks why Soo-Hyuk allowed him to stay at his apartment if he disliked him. Soo-Hyuk interrupts the conversation with a kiss, but when he tries to pull away, Yoon-Dae pulls him back for a passionate kiss.
The following day, Soo-Hyuk pushes Yoon-Dae away, leaving him confused. As Soo-Hyuk begins to leave, Yoon-Dae says he will wait for him. However, Soo-Hyuk does not appear happy.
In Gray Shelter episode 5, the atmosphere between Soo-Hyuk and Yoon-Dae remains bitter after their first kiss. Soo-Hyuk spends the night at his workplace while Yoon-Dae waits for him at home. The next morning, Yoon-Dae asks his friend Kyun-Woo to help him store his belongings and lend him money. Kyun-Woo agrees but lectures him about taking responsibility for his life.
When Yoon-Dae returns home, he sees Soo-Hyuk packing documents. He tries to stop him, making excuses, but Soo-Hyuk ignores him. Yoon-Dae confronts Soo-Hyuk about their kiss, but Soo-Hyuk dismisses it as a mistake. He taunts Yoon-Dae, suggesting they sleep together, which angers Yoon-Dae.
Soo-Hyuk continues to avoid Yoon-Dae, even spending nights at his workplace. Yoon-Dae calls him repeatedly, making excuses to get him to come home, but eventually gives up. Soo-Hyuk’s boss receives a call for home service repair and realizes Yoon-Dae made the call. He assigns Soo-Hyuk to the task.
When Soo-Hyuk arrives home, Yoon-Dae states that he will no longer bother him. A sudden change in Soo-Hyuk’s behavior confuses Yoon-Dae when he invites him out for a meal. As they eat, Soo-Hyuk makes small talk, and Yoon-Dae begins to feel at ease.
Towards the end of the episode, Soo-Hyuk offers money to Yoon-Dae, which breaks his heart. He believes Soo-Hyuk wants him to leave. Despite Yoon-Dae’s efforts to make Soo-Hyuk open up, they decide to part ways but stay in touch.
The episode concludes with Soo-Hyuk calling Yoon-Dae to check on him, leaving the possibility of a future connection between them open to interpretation.
