PBS is bringing multiple theatrical plays directly to your living room in May. The Rodgers & Hammerstein’s 80th Anniversary Special will arrive on May 31, and the latest drama from the U.K., “Maryland,” will make its American debut. “Maryland” stars Suranne Jones and Eve Best as Becca and Rosaline, sisters who come back together after their mother’s death and discover she had been keeping secrets from them. Great Performances’ new take on “Hamlet” was directed by Tony Award winner Kenny Leon and stars Ato Blankson-Wood as Hamlet, a young man who suspects treachery when his father dies suddenly. Great Performances is also broadcasting a full performance of Ossie Davis’ “Purlie Victorious,” a comedy that takes place in the Old South. Purlie Victorious Judson is a preacher who returns to his hometown in Georgia with big dreams about reclaiming his inheritance and buying the community church.
