Frances Walker was a cherished member of the Rogers Park community, known for her kindness and generosity. As a landlord, she provided affordable housing and created a welcoming environment for her tenants. However, her tragic fate took a horrifying turn on October 10, 2022, when her dismembered body was discovered in a freezer within her home.
Merlyn Kolalou, one of Walker’s tenants, has been charged with murder, robbery, aggravated identity theft, and concealing a homicide. Prosecutors argue that Kolalou killed Walker after an argument, dismembered her body, and disposed of it in different locations. Evidence presented at trial includes medical examiner photographs showing Walker’s body parts arranged on a table and surveillance footage allegedly capturing Kolalou leaving the residence with a suitcase suspected of containing Walker’s torso.
Kolalou’s defense attorneys have presented an alternate theory, suggesting that Walker’s estranged husband may have been responsible for her death. They claim that the husband had a financial motive and was physically capable of committing the heinous crime.
The trial has been a difficult and emotional experience for Walker’s loved ones, who have gathered in court to support the prosecution. The jury is currently deliberating the case, and a verdict is expected soon.
