Ground Transportation Policies: A New Era for Corporate Travel

In the ever-evolving world of business travel, ground transportation plays a crucial role, impacting both costs and traveler satisfaction. The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) and the National Limousine Association (NLA) have partnered to shed light on how companies are managing this vital aspect of travel through a report titled, “In the Fast Lane: How Do Travel Programs Manage Ground Transportation?” This report, based on insights from U.S. and Canada-based travel managers, examines the challenges and opportunities presented by ground transportation in a rapidly changing business travel environment.

The study highlights the increasing attention being paid to ground transportation, even though it represents a relatively small portion of overall travel spend. The reasons for this renewed focus are clear: optimizing ground transportation strategies can significantly impact costs, reduce risk, and enhance traveler satisfaction. Suzanne Neufang, CEO of GBTA, underscores the importance of understanding the intricacies of ground transportation in order to achieve these goals.

Brett Barenholtz, President of NLA, emphasizes the adaptability of the modern limousine industry to meet the evolving needs of corporate travel buyers. This includes addressing carbon reduction targets and accommodating large group transportation requirements. The research was conducted through an online survey of 121 travel managers from June 4-14, 2024, and the findings were presented at the GBTA 2024 Convention. GBTA members can access the full report and a recording of the session from October 31st through the GBTA Member Hub.

This report offers valuable insights for travel managers seeking to refine their ground transportation policies and create a seamless and efficient travel experience for their employees. It underscores the need for strategic planning and a comprehensive approach to ground transportation management in the face of increasing cost pressures, sustainability goals, and evolving traveler expectations.
