Group14 Delivers Advanced Silicon Battery Material from EV-Scale Factory

Group14 Technologies, a global leader in advanced silicon battery materials, has achieved a major milestone by successfully shipping its SCC55TM material from an EV-scale joint venture factory in Sangju, South Korea. This marks a significant advancement in the company’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of silicon batteries, which offer superior performance and energy density compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries.

The joint venture factory, established with SK Inc. in July 2021, has been operational since August and is already producing SCC55TM at a rate of 10 gigawatt-hours annually. This capacity is enough to power between 100,000 and 250,000 electric vehicles per year, showcasing the factory’s ability to meet the growing demand for high-performance batteries.

The shipments of SCC55TM have reached over 100 customers worldwide, including leading electric vehicle (EV) and consumer electronics (CE) battery manufacturers. The material is being used to qualify for adoption in several commercial EV and CE programs, with products expected to hit the market in 2025. This achievement underscores Group14’s commitment to delivering a sustainable and scalable solution for the electrification of vehicles and electronics.

Group14 has already established itself as a pioneer in the field, with its initial production factory (BAM-1) in Woodinville, Washington, operational since 2021. SCC55TM produced at BAM-1 is already integrated into over two million smartphones, demonstrating the material’s proven track record and widespread applicability.

The company’s strategic focus on dual-sourcing, achieved through its facilities in North America and Asia, positions Group14 as the first and only advanced silicon battery materials manufacturer to offer this critical capability for automotive industry suppliers. This strategy ensures greater product security and enhanced global battery supply chain resilience for manufacturers and OEMs.
