Despite approaching the Election Commission over 10 days ago, the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) is yet to receive a response regarding a key meeting to discuss copying cases in Class 10 and 12 exams.
As a result of the delay, the Akhil Gujarat State School Management Mahamandal, an association of schools, has urged a swift decision, expressing concern that the delay could impact the results.
GSHSEB Vice Chairman Dinesh Patel had previously sought permission from the Election Commission to convene the meeting in light of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in place for the Lok Sabha elections.
In 2023, the Class 12 results were declared on May 2, followed by Class 10 results. GSHSEB member Priyavadan Korat has emphasized the need for clarity on whether the MCC applies to such meetings, as there are concerns about the fate of suspected candidates and potential delays in supplementary exams.
The board’s Examination Committee typically conducts physical hearings with suspected candidates, their parents, and examination building in-charges. Based on the committee’s findings, the candidate’s results are declared. The hearings can take several weeks depending on the number of cases, which include those detected by flying squads, CCTV footage, or during the assessment of answer sheets.
