Gujarat Floods: Heavy Rains Cause Widespread Damage and Displacement

Heavy rains that lashed Gujarat throughout the week have triggered a severe flood situation in the western state. Numerous rivers and reservoirs are overflowing, causing widespread inundation and waterlogging in low-lying areas. The release of water from the Ajwa Reservoir and Pratappura Reservoirs into the Vishwamitri River has exacerbated the situation.

The flood situation in Gujarat has resulted in significant loss of life and displacement. Thousands have been affected, and many are missing. Heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who have lost loved ones. Immediate food and medical supplies are urgently needed for those affected by the disaster.

Political leaders have expressed concern over the unfolding crisis. Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, appealed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government to send more National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and state Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams to assist with rescue efforts. He commended the Armed Forces and Coast Guard for their ongoing rescue operations. Kharge also urged Congress leaders and workers to coordinate all possible relief efforts in response to the tragedy.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed his condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and whose property has been damaged. He also expressed hope for the speedy recovery of those injured in the floods. Gandhi called upon all Congress workers to provide all possible help to the affected people and the administration in relief and rescue work.
