The GWM Tank 700, currently available in China, may soon head to Australia as a flagship model for the brand. With a starting price of approximately A$150,000, it would become one of the most expensive Chinese cars on the Australian market. GWM Australia’s head of marketing and communications, Steve Maciver, has indicated that the vehicle is under consideration, saying, “The question is, do we think we can make a business case for Australia? I’d like to think so.” The brand has filed a trademark for the name locally, suggesting that it is seriously considering bringing the Tank 700 to right-hand drive. If the business case is approved, GWM could move very quickly to make the vehicle available, potentially within six to nine months. The Tank 700 offers an impressive range of features, including a powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, advanced suspension and off-road capabilities, and a spacious cabin. It is currently only available with the turbocharged V6, but a lower-grade model using the same 2.0-liter turbo hybrid petrol engine from the Tank 500 may become an option in the near future, potentially changing the starting price. The Tank 700’s arrival in Australia would mark a significant step forward for the GWM brand, establishing it as a player in the premium SUV market. It would also provide Australian consumers with a new and exciting option in the growing segment of luxury off-road vehicles.
