H.I.S. Renews Commitment to Responsible Tourism in Hawaii with ‘Mālama Station’

H.I.S. Co., Ltd., the parent company of Hawaii HIS Corporation, is doubling down on its commitment to responsible tourism in Hawaii. The company has successfully renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hawaii Tourism Japan (HTJ), solidifying its dedication to the “Mālama Hawai‘i” initiative. This commitment to sustainability is evident in the upcoming launch of a dedicated “Mālama Station” at the LeaLea Lounge, a key step towards promoting regenerative tourism practices.

The original MoU, signed in September 2022, aimed to promote “Mālama Hawai‘i” as a way to preserve the islands’ natural and cultural resources while creating a sustainable environment for both tourists and locals. The initiative has already seen success with various projects, including educational programs for staff and collaborative events with The Genki Ala Wai Project, an NPO dedicated to improving the Ala Wai Canal’s water quality. This collaboration even saw the dispersal of 3,000 mud balls to decompose sludge.

The “Mālama Station” will be inaugurated on November 1st, 2024, at the LeaLea Lounge, which has earned the distinction of being Hawaii’s first HTJ-certified satellite office. The station will serve as a central hub for tourists to learn about and engage with local conservation and cultural preservation efforts.

To further encourage visitor participation in “Mālama Hawai‘i,” four campaigns will be launched from November 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025. These campaigns will highlight various aspects of the initiative and provide opportunities for visitors to actively contribute to the preservation of Hawaii’s unique heritage.

H.I.S. Hawaii’s commitment to responsible tourism extends beyond the “Mālama Hawai‘i” initiative. The company has achieved the prestigious Qurator Honored Status, signifying its dedication to meeting the six key criteria of the Qurator certification program: Environment, Cultural Support, Equity, Safety, Community, and Guest Experience. Awarded by the Hawaii Tourism Authority, this certification reinforces H.I.S.’s commitment to fostering a responsible and sustainable tourism environment in Hawaii.

H.I.S. Co., Ltd., as a leading force in Hawaii’s travel industry, is dedicated to advancing regenerative tourism and implementing responsible practices that positively impact the local community and environment. The company’s unwavering commitment to “Mālama Hawai‘i” is a testament to its desire to create a sustainable future for the islands and its visitors.
