Haaland Aims for Back-to-Back PFA Awards as City Dominates Nominations

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is aiming for a remarkable feat: winning his second consecutive PFA Player of the Year award. Haaland’s nomination comes alongside two of his City teammates, Phil Foden and Rodri, highlighting the team’s dominance in the Premier League.

Haaland’s prolific goal-scoring form continued in the 2023-24 season, netting 38 goals across all competitions as City secured an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title. His impressive performance earned him the PFA award in the previous season after City’s historic treble-winning campaign.

Rodri played a pivotal role in City’s midfield during their latest Premier League triumph, demonstrating his importance in controlling the game. He also contributed to Spain’s Euro 2024 success. Meanwhile, England playmaker Foden showcased his talent with 27 goals for Pep Guardiola’s side last season.

The competition for the award is fierce, with several other notable players nominated. Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr is reportedly considering a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia, while Chelsea forward Cole Palmer, Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard, and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins are also in the running.

The women’s PFA Player of the Year award is also hotly contested. Chelsea and City players dominate the nominations, with Chelsea’s Niamh Charles, Erin Cuthbert, and Lauren James vying for the prize alongside City’s Yui Hasegawa, Lauren Hemp, and Khadija Shaw.

The winners of both the men’s and women’s awards will be announced at the PFA Awards ceremony in Manchester on August 20th. The event promises to be a celebration of football excellence, with the best players in England vying for the prestigious accolades.
